Dr Oscar Navarro

Associate Professor, Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto, Canada

Dr. Navarro graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago, Chile, in 1990. He did his residency in diagnostic radiology at the Military Hospital in Santiago, Chile, and completed a 3-year fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto, in Toronto, Canada, in June 2000. After working as a staff pediatric radiologist at Clínica Alemana de Santiago, Chile, he joined the staff in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Hospital for Sick Children in April 2001. He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging in the University of Toronto. His present clinical work is in the area of general pediatric body imaging. His special research interests are in sonography, abdominal imaging and imaging of soft-tissue masses. He has extensively published in the topics of intussusception, intestinal malrotation, necrotizing enterocolitis, vascular anomalies and other pediatric soft-tissue masses.


Dr Mika Shapira-Rootman

Senior Paediatric Radiologist, Schneider Children's Medical Centre, Israel

Dr. Shapira-Rootman graduated from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, in 2008. She did her residency in diagnostic radiology at the Rambam Health Care Campus, Haifa, Israel, and completed a 1-year fellowship in general pediatric radiology at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel, Petach-Tikva, Israel in 2015/2016 and a 1-year fellowship in pediatric neuroradiology at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada, in 2017/2018. Dr Shapira-Rootman currently works as a senior pediatric radiologist at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel and is affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Israel. Her special interests include pediatric neurooncology, neurometabolic disease and fetal MRI. She has presented at ASNR and RSNA and has many publications.

New Zealand Speakers

Dr Samantha Gerrie

Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland

Dr Gerrie graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland in 2005. She did her radiology registrar training in Auckland followed by a fellowship year in paediatric radiology at Starship Children’s Hospital and Middlemore Hospital in Auckland in 2016. She then completed a one year body radiology fellowship in diagnostic imaging in 2017 followed by a 6 month fellowship in paediatric neuroradiology in 2018, both at the Hospital for Sick Children. She currently works as a consultant paediatric radiologist at Starship Children’s Hospital in both paediatric body and neuroradiology. Her special interests include neurometabolic imaging, neurooncology, fetal MRI, neonatal bowel obstruction and ultrasound.She is currently building a fellowship program in paediatric radiology and is the convener of the first New Zealand Course in Paediatric Radiology in February 2020 aimed at general radiologists, registrars and fellows. She is also involved in registrar and medical student teaching and is actively involved in research both here in Auckland and in Toronto, Canada.
